A Constant Quest

Learning how to control and manipulate light is a quest I am still under going to this day. With every new product or new modifier, it makes you re-think how an image can be created and captured.

This image is one of them. Since I had the opportunity to receive one of the first 6-foot parabolic umbrella’s brought in by Brian Lim of EchoStore, I really had to put it to the test. The challenge was how to control the light coming for this huge source of illumination and create multiple intensities and qualities of light. My goal was to create soft weaker light on the face of the subject and a more intense, harsher light from behind to create the separation I needed from the background.

This image was shot with just ONE 580EXII CANON FLASH GUN, a parabolic umbrella, and a little bit of light manipulation. If you wish to know how this image was taken, you can click on this link…
